Newsletter #5 May 21, 2005 -

Dear Subscriber

We now have 4 weeks of the season behind us and together with the PLL we have played 303 lacrosse games.  This weekend gives us a chance to pause as there are no games scheduled for the long weekend.  We all need the break considering we played 52 games during Lacrosse Weekend.  Speaking of Lacrosse Weekend, by all accounts it was a huge success.  We were very fortunate to have 6 teams from Thompson join us for 18 exhibition games.   There were also a number of field games played on the Tyndall Park site with teams from Sagkeeng, Powerview and Winnipeg High Schools.  We also had some great competition for the skills events; check the website for photos of the winners showing off their plaques.

The WMLA is in the process of breaking out the playoff formats and schedules as we are not that far away from the final contests.   We will announce the formats in the coming weeks.

We are moving beyond our weekend loaded game schedule so you should get some time to rake the grass if it ever stops raining.  We tried this front-loaded scheduling format this year in an effort to end the season before the summer starts.  We are interested in your feedback on this new approach.  Click here to take the survey.

We also appreciate and thank you for your feedback on the 2 surveys we have run thus far;  the A League and Length of Season surveys gave us a sampling of opinions to base future decisions upon.   We intend to do more of these informal surveys in the future so please take a moment to give us your feedback.

Now that we have moved away from our weekend league games, we have some tournaments coming up in the next few weeks, as a reminder here is the list.

An opportunity for further play is The Wolverines travel team.  They are again putting together a Bantam and Midget contingent to travel to Calgary on the Canada Day long weekend.  This is the largest Indoor Lacrosse tournament in North America.  If you are a Bantam or Midget player and are interested you can contact Donna McCartney .

Still further summer playing opportunities are The National Tournaments for Peewee (E.G. Dopp Trophy) and Bantam (Commissioner's Trophy)  that will be held in Whitby and Burnaby respectively the first week of August.  Tryouts have already been held for these 2 teams, you can contact the Manitoba Lacrosse office for further info.

We hope you have enjoyed your lacrosse-free weekend and get rested up for the second half of the season!

Sincerely yours,

Your WMLA Newsletter Team
