| Dear Reader Well week one is now
complete and I'm sure you all enjoyed the pitter patter of little and BIG
feet this week! By all accounts this season is shaping up to be a very
competitive year. We completed 64 games this week of a 433 game regular
season schedule. I believe we had one forfeit this week, last year I
think there was only one all regular season so I hope that is the last one
for this year. MOUTH GUARDS and JEWELRY As you know, mouth guards have been mandatory for a couple years however this year when it comes to equipment there is an important change. If a player is caught without a mouth guard or wearing jewelry of any kind (except medic alert bracelets) the team will receive a 2 minute penalty and the player will be ejected from the game. So remind your players to take out the earring and put the mouth guard in! NEW OFFICIALS We have 40 brand new referees this year and as you know everyone takes time to learn a new skill. So please assist us in giving these new officials room to grow. Every year we lose over half of our new officials so it is important they have the support of the coaches, players and fans while they develop. MINOR OFFICIALS The shot clock operator and timekeeper are referred to as Minor Officials. Many of our minor officials are new this year as well and there is a lot going on in that little box during a game. It it easy to miss letting a player out, starting the clock or setting the time in a penalty so your patience is also appreciated with them. SHAMROCK WEEKEND Sincerely yours, The WMLA Newsletter Team
