12/17/2007 The WMLA is now replaced with the RRLA or Red River Lacrosse Association. The RRLA is the governing body for all Box lacrosse in Southern Manitoba and includes all box division from Tyke through to Senior.

09/28/2007 The WMLA has set it's AGM for October 22nd at 7:00 PM at the sport Manitoba Building located at 200 Main Street. Come out and get involved, details here

07/09/2007 The Manitoba Founders Bud, Spud and Steak will be held on Thursday, July 26, Canad Inn Polo Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is a fundraising event to help support our Junior B players from all four Winnipeg Zones who will come together to form our Founders Team. This national tournament is being held in Kamloops this year. COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR MANITOBA TEAM!

06/08/2007 The Manitoba Lacrosse Association will be hosting the first annual Pee Wee Provincial Lacrosse Championship. The Provincials will be held at East End Arena on Thursday July 12, Friday July 13, Saturday July 14 and Sunday July 15. The entry fee will be $150.00/team. These provincials will be limited to ten (10) teams.

Ø The champion and runner up out of the WMLA Pee Wee A division play-offs – 2

Ø Team from each Winnipeg zone – Gryphons, Sidewinders, Falcons, Shamrocks – 4

Deadline to register for this first annual Provincial Championship is Friday June 15th.

06/03/2007 Today the 1st Annual Jim Hunt Memorial Tournament wrapped up with the Falcons 2 team taking the A side championship and Sagkeeng capturing the B side. 05/28/2007 The second half schedule has been loaded on the website. The new League designations are A and B. Following are the 13 teams and the tier each fall under. You can see your schedules by selecting the League (A or B) and Division (Peewee) for your respective teams. The previous win/loss stats reset to zero, standings can be viewed by selecting your new League designation. The first part of the year remains online as House League for reference only.

04/23/2007 The 2007 season kicked off today. The schedule now includes the Junior program so thus far there are 407 games scheduled. The Peewee program no longer boasts an A division so the format this year will be an 8 game season after which the division will be divided into an A and a B division.

06/20/2006 Winnipeg Falcons went undefeated last weekend to win the Moose Jaw Bantam A Lacrosse Tournament. The Falcons won all 5 of their games with a couple of squeakers. Coach Rob Gardner and Dan Stanicky did a great job in preparing the team. Click Here to See Photo

06/12/2006 The WMLA instituted tough new suspension rules to reduce the number of fights. Fighting is NOT part of the game of lacrosse, any player issued as 5 minute fighting major will receive a game misconduct and a minimum of a 2 game suspension. If you are the instigator or aggressor in a play that results in a fight, you will receive further disciplinary action.

04/25/2006 Today 2 new features were released on the WMLA website, on the home page is a quick schedule view calendar. Click on the date and see a list of events for that date. On the schedules page the same sort of feature was also included to enable quick date searches. You may also notice some new pictures cycling at the top of the screen, those are from this year opening weekend.

04/24/2006 Gryphon Lacrosse is pleased to invite Novice teams to the 3rd Annual Riley Shau Memorial Tournament to be held May 26, 26 and 28th at Gateway and Morse Place. The Entry fee is $200 and you are guaranteed 3 games.

In case you are wondering, Riley Schau was a founding member of the Gryphons Lacrosse. His dad, Warren was very involved in this organization at the executive & coaching levels. Riley passed away at a young age and we honor his memory & his family’s contribution to our sport.

04/18/2006 The 2006 schedules are loaded on the website, with the exception of the tyke schedule. This year we have 61 teams playing 470 games in 9 different venues. We hope you get to take in some of the action in Sagkeeng or at the Richmond Kings Arena this weekend.

04/18/2006 The 2006 Lacrosse schedule has been posted on the WMLA website. It is a good idea to not print your schedules but instead use the web as a live information tool. This way you are sure to have the current dates at all times. Schedules can and do change, make sure when you show up, the rest of the team does too!

01/24/2006 The planning for the upcoming season has begun, tonight was the 3rd meeting thus far.

07/07/05 Tonight the season wrapped up with the final game in the Bantam A division at Mosienko Arena. From April 23rd through July 7th we played an incredible 585 lacrosse games. Of these, 106 were playoffs games. One of our primary objectives this year was to conclude playoffs by June 30th for the non-A divisions. We accomplished this objective and further concluded the entire schedule by July 7th. In the last few years, we were playing as late at July 16th in all divisions so while the season may have appeared rushed, it was to meet these objectives.

The WMLA would like to congratulate all the participants in the lacrosse program for their effort on the floor this season and extend our thanks to the countless volunteers who made the season happen.

Religious statues grace the entranceway to Sacred Heart Academy, an all-girls, private Catholic high school in central Connecticut, and along the pristine path to the 127-acre hilltop campus, small sanctuaries serve as havens for students and the nuns in residence to pause in quiet reflection. Down a long walkway from the main grounds is the academy's manicured softball field, set in a bowl surrounded by soaring maple and pine trees, a setting with an almost cathedral-like feel.

It was here, the Hamden police say, that 46-year-old Mark Picard, upset that his daughter, Melanie, had been suspended for missing a softball game to attend a prom, clubbed Coach John Crovo in the back of the head with an aluminum bat on May 17. read more....

06/06/05 The tyke division is moving to full court games beginning June 8th. The zones with 2 teams will merge to create 4 teams in total one representing each zone. Please check your schedules to see revised game times and dates. No change to venue ot game times was required however all teams will play 8 more games each every Wednesday and Sunday till the end of June.

The Beausejour Bandits take on the Sidewinders 1 in a Bantam B contest. And the feature of the day will be a game between the Ravens and Sagkeeng in some hot Senior B action! C'mon out to Beausejour for a great day of Lacrosse!

05/08/2005 This coming weekend, May 14 and 15th is National Lacrosse Weekend in Canada. As usual, the MLA sponsors a number of extra activities for this weekend. The WMLA has scheduled 44 regular season games on these two days. Both outdoor surfaces at Tyndall Park along with Mosienko and Maples arenas will be going non-stop on these two days. We have also scheduled an additional 18 exhibition games between our teams and the 6 teams coming from Thompson. The Thompson contingent will bring 2 each Tyke, Novice and Peewee teams to participate in this event. So check out the revised schedules on Monday as a number of changes in our regular season schedule had to be made to accommodate the additional games. COME OUT AND SEE SOME HOT LAX! Events Info

March 7, 2005 ... The Manitoba Lacrosse Association is pleased to announce that Kim Browning has accepted the position of Head Coach for the Bantam Provincial Box Lacrosse Program. Kim brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Provincial Program. With his acceptance of this 2 year term he will begin the process of selecting assistant coaches for this program.

The objective of this site is to present the happenings in Lacrosse to the masses. We intend to utilize the web as one of the main communication vehicles for Minor Lacrosse in Winnipeg and surrounding area.

The planning for this season has been ongoing for months and the start is just around the corner, we hope you use this site extensively to get caught up and to keep up to date as the season progresses. Registrations are scheduled for all the zones, click here for a summarized listing of all registrations dates and times. See the box on the right labeled REGISTRATION DATES for copies of announcements from all the zones detailing registration date, 4 x 4 camps, Discover Lacrosse Sessions and other info.

Advanced registrations have been held in all zones for both regular season registrations and for the new A division tryouts. If you are in Pee Wee, Bantam or Midget and want to try out for the A division please contact your the zone representatives. You must register by March 12th to be considered for the A league.
